Short Lost Love Poems

Sometimes, when we think of the happier past, it is very natural for regret and bitterness to creep up, especially when we feel that we have been unfairly treated.

An Empty Dream

Think of the past I can feel the happiness
Think of the present I’m filled with sadness
Our love used to shine with brightness
But now it is languishing in darkness
We treated each other with fondness
Instead feelings we have now is bitterness
I thought I have found love and kindness
A dream it was as there is now only emptiness.

This second lost love poem here is about broken dreams when the person you care about has walked away robbing you of your happiness.

Broken Promises

Of a future together you spoke
But you ended up dashing my hope
You said your love is as sturdy as an oak
Instead I found myself on a slippery slope
You claimed promises you won’t revoke
All lies that it was so hard for me to cope
Don’t you care sadness in me you’ll invoke
Leaving me in darkness that I have to grope.

I like the metaphors of sturdy oak and slippery slope. Weel done!

Welcome to the world of poetry. Enjoy. And hope you find lots of ideas at RWP. Read the links to other’s poetry, too. Fellow poets have a lot to offer (not me these days, but others :-) )

I like the juxtaposition of the promises and hopes vs. the grasp of ‘reality’ that you must ‘grope’ the darkness…and the hint that you know you must move on into the future. Nice poem, and keep writing!
